In Celtic mythology, Merlin is known as a legendary figure who had magical powers and was a celebrated advisor, magician and prophet. He is most notably known from the Arthurian legend where he acted as King Arthur's mentor guiding him from when he was a boy until he ascended the throne, aiding in the extraction of the famous sword 'Excalibur' from the stone. Merlin was also said to be the mastermind behind the legendary Round Table at Camelot. He was thought to have the ability to foresee the future, which played a major role in the Arthurian kingdom. He is a prominent figure in many different interpretations ranging from a wise bard to a powerful wizard.
